MISSION

Families Forward Charlotte partners with families living in poverty in Mecklenburg County, NC. We provide individualized mentoring, educational opportunities and essential support as we walk alongside each family on their journey toward long-term stability and economic mobility.

VISION

We envision our city’s children and families living free of the challenges of poverty.

FAMILY SUCCESS PROGRAM

Our Family Success Program is a volunteer driven wrap-around support program that increases social capital for the families we serve. We take a “meet you where you are” approach to improving life skills and focus on goal attainment while ensuring families have the tools they need to succeed. Below are the components of our program.

Goal Setting & Navigating Resources

Family Liaisons are trained in Mobility Mentoring to assess and help parents set life goals and develop an action plan. As families demonstrate needs, Family Liaisons help to locate resources for the family often using our public database.

Educational Opportunities

We host monthly Educational Workshops for families covering topics such as Financial Empowerment, goal setting, parenting skills and career readiness.

Essential Baskets

Baskets containing toiletries, cleaning supplies, seasonal items, food items and a grocery gift card were distributed to each family three times throughout the year (fall, winter and spring).

Financial Support Request

Family Liaisons can request up to $1,000 in financial assistance for their partnering families based on needs to help the family break through barriers to success.

School Supplies and Holiday Help

Backpacks filled with school supplies as well as holiday presents and meals were provided to families.

WEEKEND FOOD PACKS

We coordinate, raise funds, collect donations, and provide volunteers to prepare food bags for children and families in food-insecure households. Each bag provides a child with food over weekends and holidays when they lack access to free breakfast and lunch at their school.

COMMUNITY RESOURCES

Knowledge is power.  We are committed to connect you to the specific resources you need, quickly.

As part of our Donor Appreciation Month, we want to recognize Deborah Barkley! Deborah has supported our mission in many ways over the past 7 years and we recently asked her to share why she is so passionate about helping the community in this way. We appreciate her sharing her connection to our mission!"My mother was responsible for 6 children under the age of 9 when an alcoholic husband/father left and our family situation at that time is how I imagine FFC families might be... caught in an unbearable and unbeatable situation. I know that what I am able to give to this very worthy organization is helping a family find a way to better care for themselves. And, because I have known one of FFC's founders through my church, the determination I saw in her to start FFC impacts my trust in giving. I have also seen the work in action as I volunteered with the children while parents attended workshops, and I coordinated essential basket collections for the families through my church. I also tell everyone about FFC because I trust the organization to make the most of my contribution and I pray for families to find ways to a more stable and secure life, and for the incredibly loving and well-informed staff of FFC and their dedication to FFC families." Thank you for everything you do, Deborah! ... See MoreSee Less
