“I want to thank you all SO much for helping us with rent. This new job has been amazing and challenging so far, but it is taking some adjusting to the new schedules (work, paychecks, after school care, etc). I am so appreciative of all of the support you have given us.
I have always wanted to be a software developer, but I sort of meant it in the way that a child says that they want to be an astronaut. It is not something I ever thought would truly happen. Without the help from you all, it never would have happened. Getting my daughter into after school, getting a wardrobe together, and going without a paycheck for a month are obstacles my family never could have overcome on our own. I can honestly say that Families Forward has made my dreams come true. I can not thank you enough.”
Everyone here at FFC is incredibly proud of her and all of her hard work!
October Workshop Recap
This past week Families Forward Charlotte hosted two opportunities for families in our Family Assistance Program to attend an educational workshop on career readiness. Our presenter, Grace Mar Service, Inc., spoke with parents about how to affectively write a resume, tips for applying to jobs and perfecting interviewing skills. We had a great turnout for this month’s workshop and learned a lot!
While parents were participating in the workshop, their kids got to make fun Halloween masks and do some "trick-or-treating". A huge thank you to Thompson Child & Family Focus and Sardis Presbyterian Church for letting us host our workshops at their locations this month!
Thank you to Ernst & Young for packing Essentials Baskets this past month!
Recent Grants Awarded To Families Forward Charlotte
The past couple months have been very exciting for Families Forward Charlotte, as we have been awarded recent grants that will have a huge impact on our organization’s ability to further help families in the Charlotte community.
Charlotte Mecklenburg Community Foundation, the grant making arm of Foundation For The Carolinas, announced that it granted $800,000 to 37 local nonprofits, including Families Forward Charlotte. The grants address issues concerning Family & Child Stability and Children, Youth & Young Adults. FFC will be using the funds awarded by this grant to help expand our Family Assistance Program and increase our reach to more families across Charlotte. Charlotte Regional REALTORS Association Canopy Housing Foundation awarded $90,722.22 through their Community Grants Program at their Opening Hearts, Opening Doors luncheon to 26 area organizations that are working to address unmet housing needs across the Charlotte region. We are so grateful that Families Forward Charlotte was one of those recipients. Funds awarded to FFC are being used to help families in our program who are currently facing homelessness and housing instability.
